This is Icom's latest model VHF with both 0183 and NMEA 2000 interfaces, plus a built in AIS receiver. It also includes active noise cancellation and the ability to replay up to the last 2 minutes of reception. This last feature is a great way to listen again to something that you didn't quite catch the first time. The built in AIS receiver picks up Class A and Class B ships, displays them on an LCD screen on the VHF, and transmits the info over the NMEA 2000 bus for display on your chart plotter, radar, or any other compatible device. It has a front-mount mic, and provision to connect a remote mic as well.
This is a really nice VHF. I have two of them installed on my boat, but they are the non-AIS models since I have a full AIS transceiver. This AIS model was purchased as an experiment, but we decided not to mix the AIS receiver with a transceiver, so this one is now for sale. It was installed and used for about a week, but I have all the factory accessories, brackets, packaging, etc. The MMSI number has been factory reset by an Icom service center so you can enter in your own MMSI. It has been upgraded to V1.002 which fixes a number of NMEA 2000 bugs and will save you a $50 service charge (that's what I paid). Please note that the outer box is from my last non-AIS M506, not this exact unit. But all packaging and accessories are the same.
These sell for around $550, and I'm asking $400. If you have been eying one of these, or considering a new VHF with an integrated AIS receiver, here's a chance to save some cash and get a really nice unit.
