Anything I can "legally" do about this?

I'd let the issue die unless you're experiencing significant/costly engine issues possibly related to excess engine usage or lack of periodic maintenance related to engine-hour usage. Even then, it would be an uphill battle, probably not worth the effort/expense to dispute.

Bold Rascal, You did get a lot of good info above. The old saying "Buyer Beware" prevails. I went through the exact same situation on my 43 Viking years ago. The broker was honorable and replaced a $300 part for me. I never asked if meters worked but like you, made the determination on the trip home which was flawless. I now have a policy of "ALWAYS" pulling engine oil, tranny oil and genny oil samples at survey. Cost is "pennies" thru NAPA on a major investment and very accurate and informative! But the best test, I agree, was your ride home. Now would be a good time to pull samples. Just go to any NAPA, ask for sample kits for anything that has oil...leave your hydraulics alone.Gary
