Transmission

I have a Ford Lehman 275T on a 43 foot president 1987 . Yesterday while docking the port transmission would not work unless I gave it some power then it kicked in what should I look for and is this just an adjustment ???

1st check fluid level. Add if necessary.
2nd disconnect the cable at the tranny and try it manually to see if it engages fully. Adjust cable if necessary.
