Thermostat flow direction 135 lehman

I can't seem to find any flow charts for this engine on google. I just need to know if the coolant flows down thru the coolant tank to the engine, or if the water pump sucks it up into the coolant tank. Seems like it be easier for the thermostat to open and dump coolant into that space to me, but I don't know, hoping someone else does. I'd like to do this job once if possible ha.

It flows out of the engine through the thermostat and into the tank. Then it flows out the starboard side of the tank behind fuel injector pump.
