Stuffing Box clay

Has anyone tried the clay that is on the market? I just bought a pack; wasn't any directions on the box. Does it work?

If it's that stuff, I used to use it before GFO came alone and it worked very well.

I used it once many years ago. I guess it worked, but it was a bit hard to deal with and a pain to clean out. I'd much rather go with the gfo.

The one thing I did seem to like was the small bottle of lube it comes with. I've used that with regular flax to help it seat and it actually worked pretty well for that!

I guess one try is not a thorough analysis, but I probably won't experiment with it again.

Same experienced as Ghost when trying to clean the stuff out of our sailboat stuffing box. We switched to gore and were very happy with the switch. Compassmarine has a nice write-up on stuffingbox packing.

Tried it too and it wasn't long before I bit the bullet and bought the GFO.
