I tested my engine safety controls to ensure the unit is actually protected. Boiled water in a pot with the high coolant temp switch suspended inside. The switch closed at 250F. Reinstalled, when I ground the wire the fault breaker does pop out, but the engine keeps running? Same goes for the oil pressure safety switch. However, when I test the exhaust temp switch, the engine does stop? My unit is an 8kW, but the question should apply to other sizes in the range. I have the manuals for this unit.

This issue was at last resolved when I discovered a previous owner must have switched the two screw terminals on the fault breaker. Now everything works as it should. Always test safety switches to ensure they will work when needed. The engine may run for years with a coolant or oil safety jumped out.
