Lehman engine parts

Closing next week on a new to us boat with twin Lehmans. Couls anyone recommend a source for parts such as raw water pump impellers?

Thanks,

Bob

RE: Lehman engine parts

I looked at their web site and from that it's not obvious that they sell parts. I'll give them a try.

Twin SP225's. Scheduled an engine survey to check out the valves. Turned out the owner had documentation showing the bad valves had been replaced by a previous owner. The engine survey was a total waste of time and money.

RE: Lehman engine parts

I bought heat exchangers, oil coolers and exhaust elbows for my FL120s from FredWarner1(5170),an ebay seller, located on the west coast, <fredwarner1@hotmail.com>.Fast,efficient, helpful, cheaper than American Dsl, cheaper than Seakamp online, and much cheaper than getting them made in Australia, even with shipping. I had my diesel mechanic check and ok. the parts online first, they fitted fine and do the job.

They should be able to provide anything you need. Bob Smith is sort of a legend with the Lehmans. His son Brian will probably be the one you talk to. Wealth of knowledge on the Lehmans. I have ordered an updated raw water pump, complete coolant hose kits and several other parts from there. They are the best choice.

I did talk to Brian about how to identify the valve types. Then I had to explain it to the mechanic doing the survey.

I just wish American Diesel would*liste parts and prices on their web site.

Seems I got a "Cruisers Kit" price list in a previous order that listed common wear items and more for my 135's. May want ask him about it? They do seem to be understaffed at times.

RE: Lehman engine parts

It's usually just two guys. They're in a small metal building hidden in the woods just north of the metropolis of Killmarnock, VA. Yet the folks they help everyday are from the far reaches of the planet. If you have to spend a couple of extra bucks to buy from them, do! I often buy things and can only get up there after hours or the weekend, they leave it hidden outside for me. If they're gone then tens of thousands of us are screwed.

Lehman engine parts

Greetings'
American Diesel is a GREAT resource, as mentioned. I have also dealt with Bomac Marine (when they were located in Ft. Lauderdale-behind Lester's Diner-isn't EVERYTHING marine behind Lester's?). They are now located in Georgia but have kept their Ft. Lauderdale phone #. Another GREAT resource and they list some prices on their website. VERY positive experience-good folks. I got a new starter motor there on sale for $149 about 4 years ago. Disclaimer: NO connection other than a satisfied customer.

*American Diesel isn't much for websites.* Even when they were selling new drop-in replacement engines for the FL120, their website was minimal.

You need to call them directly to get information, parts, etc.

The diesel shop we use in Bellingham has a lot of Lehman experience, but they get many of their parts from American Diesel.

Some parts for the FL120 are simply no longer available, particularly some of the Lehman marinization parts.* For example, the drive coupler for the raw water pump was designed by Bob Smith way back when.* Unfortunately, he told me, it has a fatal flaw in its design and construction which cannot be effetively fixed when it breaks which it eventually will.* These couplers are no longer available unless you can get one off a discarded engine.

The Lehman cooled exhaust manifold I've been told by Bob and our shop are no longer available other than as salvage off a discarded engine.

But many service and wear items like coolant pumps, heat exchangers, valves, valve guides, thermostats, pistons, rings, bearings, seals, etc. are still available.* The injection pump can be rebuilt, for example.

There are three manuals for the FL120.* The operators manual, the shop manual, and the parts manual.* We were fortunate that our boat came with all three, plus Ford of England's original operations and service manual for the base Dover engine.* But if these manuals aren't on a boat you buy, they are available for downloading on a number of websites.

RE: Lehman engine parts

I see the good sense in supporting American Diesel, though I doubt many Australian mechanics know it exists. Maybe there is an opening for an agency. Interestingly, the Engine Books which came with "Doriana" include an Introduction written and signed by Bob Smith, as VP of Lehman. BruceK

RE: Lehman engine parts

Not taking anything away from the Smiths but for pumps I go to DepcoPump.com. I'm sure you can buy pump parts from American Diesel but I'd go to a pump specialist for pump parts.

I've seen several pics of LF120s with a chrome/SS valve cover. Anyone know where/who sells one?

Greetings,
I think the chrome valve cover was available on the 135HP Lehmans. If anybody, American Diesel or Bomac, as mentioned, should have a source and remember, "Chrome won't get ya home"...hahahaha

Favorite mantra with my 4 wheeling buddies and I

Normally just before cannibalizing wiring from an expensive stereo or lighting system to fix a broken wire somewhere else on his rig.

As RT mentioned the shiny valve cover was on the SP135. It's great conversation piece when you show off the holly room but that's about it.

The best way to get chrome parts is take what you've already got to a chrome shop. And then put it all back together with SS fasteners.

West Coast source in the bay area is the Out Board Motor shop in Oakland Ca. They have a pretty good supply of Lehman parts as well.
