So I always planned that the exhaust elbow of my Lehman would rust out so I have a spare. Well it turns out today while on a short cruise it was the exhaust manifold just behind the elbow that blew a hole and took 3 months off my life while in rollers at the mouth of the harbor.

Is a repair likely or replacement the only option? Anyone have a spare for sale?

Doesn’t look good. You could try JB Weld as a temporary fix (or permanent if it works)

JB Weld will melt at the temps of the exhaust manifold. Replace it. American Diesel and Bomac Marine are two good sources of Lehman parts.

Looks like casting was thin there. Could also have been thinned by water backing up from mixer. When you get it off, look for corrosion signs internally.

Quite likely you will have to replace the manifold with a Bowman replacement. They are made in the UK. and are available via Bomac. They combine several componants of the cooling system, IE: heat exchanger, expansion tank and the function of both the intake and exhaust manifold. You also have to change the engine coolant pump for it all to line up.

That's what I was thinking too. It was dry and didn't spit out any water for the 10 minutes it took me to get back to the harbor, but that doesn't mean water hadn't been backed up there before. I was really expecting it to be from the elbow, and quite surprised to find the hole where it was. I will pull it next trip down and see how corroded things look.

Thank you all for the suggestions.
