Hi, everyone. I'm installing a genset on my Albin 34" trawler and want to know if it's ok to install it above the waterline.

Dan, the Westerbeke genset in our Albin 40 is just above the waterline level with the engine room sole. Where in Florida are you? Have you heard of the Albin Owners Group? Lots of advice and info on our Albins. Of topic, we’re trying to put an Albin Rendezvous together for Florida.

We're in Madeira Beach. What size westerbeke do you have? Installing an older 4.4 kw.

I have an 8kW on my Albin 40.

I have mine above the water line and prefer it that way.

Yes, it can be installed above the WL. Only concern with that is when water pump gets worn, it may have a hard time pulling a prime and it may burn up impellers. One foot above WL, should be little issue. Five feet above WL and you probably should go with an electric pump mounted in the bilge.
