Fuel Sight Gauges

Like many of you, we have long plastic tubes as sight gauges for our fuel tanks. Not very accurate, but simple and works. I have tried to find a system to help keep track of how much fuel is used and have used strips of blue painters tape marking various levels of fuel, etc.

Then last week I was walking through Home Depot and came across a roll of masking tape with a yellow ruler printed on it. It is marked every inch for 12 inches and then repeats, etc. I thought it might do the trick. Put a strip on each sight tube today. Now it is easy to see how much fuel has been used with a better estimate of how much fuel is left.

The marker tape would work.
I just converted the level to litres and made up an indicator board for behind the sight tube.

Now every time you go for fuel, mark the fuel level on the tape, fill the tank full then write the number of gallons pumped on the tape next to your mark. After a few years you will have a perfectly calibrated fuel gauge.
