I recently bought the Johnson pump to replace the original Jabsco on my FL 120. The Jabsco was leaking at the beginning of the season and although I managed to replace the seals (and it's been running fine since then), I figured I would replace the pump as soon as I got the time to avoid the predictable failure of the Jabsco pump somewhere down the line.
So now I have a few questions before I tackle the job!
First, which is the in and the out port? It says on the pump that it depends of the rotation of the gear it connects to. How do I find that out? I'm assuming I have to install the pump with the ports pointing up and down since the engine block would be in the way of one of the ports if they were horizontal? There is also some king of notch on the flange (on the left side of my picture). Does this need to go at a specific location on the engine flange?
Second question. It says I need to block an oil passage with a supplied plug. I'm assuming the old pump need to be lubricated by the engine oil and the new one does not. Do I need to put grease on the gear then before installing the new one?
Finally, the pump came with two paper gaskets. Do I need to install both of them? Or is the second one a spare?
Oh, one more question. Does this pump use the same impeller as the Jabsco pump? I have a few spares but if they don't fit I will get new ones.
Thanks!
