Hello and Good Day Everyone-
I am looking possibly into purchasing a 1987 Overseas 46 with 555's. They boat is located in Kent island MD. By chance can anyone recommend a surveyor or mechanic who has experience with these power plants?

"These engines take a long time to warm up and i dont keep them at 600-650 rpm for idle. When oil pressure is up we increase them till they smooth out around 700rpm. We leave the slip and idle out around 700-800 till temp comes up to 140. We increase about 200 rpm for every 10-20 deg increase in water temp. slowly bringing up rpm till temps reach 160ish then to cruise of 1750-1800. We do not rush the engines. They have lots of metal (approx 2200lbs) to heat and we believe in slow and steady."
This is a good long term practice for ANY diesel.

No recommendations but have you contacted Cummins? Ask specifically if they have someone with marine 555 experience. Or 504's or 903's as they are all quite similar other than the displacements. If they are known for 903 0r 504 they will have worked ont the 555 also. Those mechanics will likely be older fellows.
Ask around marinas and any yacht clubs. We had a couple fellows who were good with those engines.

555's were used in a lot of different heavy construction vehicles and farm tractors. You might try a repair shop that works on construction vehicles, they may have someone that is familiar with VT555's. They are not a high revving engine, my mechanic says keep it below 2100 RPM and it will last forever. We hit 8.5 knts at 1900 with our single 555

IMO you have a good program but personally I would add load a bit faster to bring up combustion temps sooner
