Cummins 330.....330hp....or 315???

I guess I could look on the dataplate on my engine but my Cummins guy mumbled something the other day that the 330B is a 315hp engine and it is the same engine as the older 315hp engines??? I have heard Tony on BD refer to the same thing. Is this true? And if so, are the 370 6BTAs actually 370hp or something different?

Maybe something about different measurement criteria.... so could be both.


FWIW, our Cummins C engines' "crankshaft power" ratings are 450 hp "according to ISO 3046 fuel stop power. Fuel 25°C (77°F)"... but 430 bhp "according to ISO 8665 fuel stop power. Fuel 40°C (104°F)" Our data plate read "Rated HP 450 (metric) at 2600 RPM"

Yes, Chris is correct. The difference in hp is due to differences in the measurement protocol- fuel temperature principally. The engine is the same.

It changed to the metric standard so yes similar HP, BUT the later 6B 330hp models were improved over the older 315 models, boatdiesel has plenty of info on that.
