cat 3126 clinks when shut down

I own a 2001 Mainship 390 trawler with cat 3126-300 power, 2000 hrs. well maintained,runs great but when I shut it down it clunks! Just curious if anyone else has ever had one do this.Getting ready to travel for 2 months and sure do not want any major problems. Thanks for any feedback on this issue!

Is the clunk new or has it always done it?

Lots of engine/gear combos clunk on shutdown. Gears rattle and damper plate hits the stops. Usually if anything is wrong it will rattle badly when at idle in gear, if ok there, usually nature of the beast.

Clinks almost like a tinkling sound......possibly turbo?

Clunks are harder..... location on engine if you can determine would help.
