Something I learned along the way when rescuing people at sea.


It doesn't have to be pretty. Get them onboard the best way you can. Winching them up the side of your boat may separate shoulders, break arms or legs, etc....


The alternative can be hypothermia, drowning or abandonment.....all lesser options.


Sure do your best, sure you can get sued, sure life isn't fair..... as posted before....one of the tenants of going to sea is "don't go overboard or don't expect to go home".


Another tidbit....often when using a rescue swimmer and trying a double pickup....the swimmer AND rescuee exceeded the 600lb limit of the rescue hoist because of their being wet or gear full of water.
