Venice FL cruise
We are planning a 3 day cruise to Venice FL. We will be traveling with a couple on a second boat. They have 2 kids, ages 8 and 11.
I will be looking at marinas on Active Captain, but was wondering if anyone here has a recommended marina? Favorite restaurants? Cool things to do?

Hi,
Venice is our homeport. Only 2 marinas available, Fisherman's Wharf right at the north bridge with Marker 4 restaurant on the property and an easy walk over the bridge onto the island with plenty of shopping and restaurants. The other is the Crow's Nest just inside the south jetty with a restaurant also on property but quite a walk into downtown. We are at Fisherman's Wharf until the 23rd when we head for the east coast. Crow's Nest can be a little bumpy due to the proximity to the inlet.
Hope you enjoy,
Ken

Ken's right about the bumps sometimes at Crows Nest, especially with opposing wind and tide, but Bill's right too.....the good food at Crows nest is our target whenever we're in Venice.

We always made a stop at Crow's Nest is our SW FL cruising, which was mostly devoted to anchoring out. Even via the asphalt slough a couple times. Friendly marina, they typically have courtesy bicycles on hand which we rode into the lovely town and the nice beaches. Nicer view from the boat too.

We enjoyed the Crows Nest restaurant a couple of times, same for docking at the Heigel Park dock it used to be OK to overnight there but apparently now only from 6 AM till midnight.

Another vote for the Crow's Nest for their food and loaner bikes. Many gather at the Jetty to watch spectacular sunsets.

Do either Crows Nest or Fishermans wharf have a pool?

Not the Crows Nest. And I don't believe Fishermens Wharf has one either. The Veince Yacht Club does as I recall.

If you like mussels the Crows Nest used to have a really good wine/butter/garlic dish. If they still do, ask for extra bread.

Wifey B: We love love love love love Venice. If we weren't living in Paradise, otherwise known as Fort Lauderdale, it would be so very high on our list. We also like Naples a lot. Fishermans's Wharf is nice but we like Crow's Nest the most. The main reason we choose Crow's Nest is the depth of 12' or so vs. only about 5' at FW. If we were living aboard we'd probably go with FW. Someone wrote to describe Crow's Nest that it's not really a marina, it's a restaurant with docks.

B and B, that is a fine looking vessel you have there. Our boats only draw 2 1/2 ft., so we should be fine at Fisherman's. Hopefully, they will have room for us!

Wifey B: Well, FW is more marina like I think. We could handle 5' on the Avatar boat. Just the last boat we were on in Venice couldn't.

LJK,
We draw 4.5' and have never had a problem at Fisherman's Wharf. Marker 4 restaurant there is excellent, award winning chef, excellent mussels also and not quite as expensive as Crow's Nest.
