Fl dockage near Daytona area

I'm buying a boat soon and figured I'll start looking for spot to keep it.


New to Florida so not familiar with better cruising areas so it can be a short 30-45 min drive north/south from Daytona, rather than sail that distance.


Need local knowledge



another consideration what to do if a named storm is forecast to meet insurance provisions, where can I keep it?

We've been at Halifax Harbor in Daytona for the past couple of months. Nice concrete floating docks on tall pilings fairly well protected from storms. Good electric and wifi. Average rates, nice staff. If a hurricane comes, our boat isn't leaving.

Have you asked if boats have weathered hurricanes in fact stayed there?


From there where's your favorite cruising areas?

Sorry, only been there for a few months and got called back to NYC before we could do any serious cruising. The marina is well built with concrete floating docks with high pilings should handle most any average or above average blow. In case of a hurricane we'll add extra fenders and lines and hope for the best - that is why we have insurance. My parents have a home basically across the river and in the last 10 years only suffered minimal hurricane damage, some to their tile roof but mostly to their fixed wooden dock due to rising water. If their dock floated on high pilings there probably wouldn't have been any dock damage at all.
If you are anywhere in Florida in hurricane season you are going to be taking your chances.

Recently moved from Cape Canaveral too Halifax Marina Daytona
State run marina ,
Nice floating concetete , electric / water / clean restrooms / convenient
gas dock with pump out
Beach St is within walking distance , Hand full of restaurants ,
Jackie Robinson Stadium AAA ball , Not far from speedway ,
If you have a car lots too do
Many marinas along the ICW . Do a search , Some have waiting lists
Lot depends on what type of boating you do ?
My boat is 30 ft and Halifax had open slips ,
Going from dry rack too wet slip ,
In the Daytona area closest access too ocean is Ponce Inlet around
15 miles south ,

Next ocean access is St Augustine , around 35 miles ( guessing )
Cape Canaveral is a major port , Few marinas , some private
Few live a board marinas , Halifax is a live aboard ,
Harbor town - merit island - live aboard

Not many with Direct access too ocean

We found a great marina, Coquina, about 1 mile N of Halifax much nicer with pool & spa only $1 more than Halifax new concrete docks

They are advertising open slips
Looks expensive from icw
My boat is only 30 ft
Passed by other day see they are looking a operator too take over the restaurant , Same as Halifax.
I'm retired from owing restaurants ( don't tell them)
Strange area , sketchy at night time, lots of homeless hanging around

Coming from a marina that offered pool, game/tv bar, huge general store were you can get bait / tee shirts / boat paints / engine parts.
Family operated business that makes sure security of marina , boats , customer safety top priority ,
We wanted a change into a wet slip ,require floating
Previous marina had only stationery ,
Halifax is fine for now , 30 miles closer from home

it is owned by the folks that run Nascar so so it it very stable financially , they spent 5 mill two years ago.
rebuilding and dredging.

Is the coconut Joe restaurant there? Fun place for an occasional dinner or drink but a little wild to go there too often.
