Make dang sure you arent on a face dock. Lots of boats, including the gambling cruise ships, make huge wakes through there. A group cron Joyner last year got damaged when they got waked while of the face dock.

I've never stopped there on my boat, but some of my customers have. Seemed like a nice place and I never heard them complain. There are two marinas (or more!!), at least one is on the west side and there is little fun stuff to do on that bank without requiring the car. On the east bank, one is right at House of Blues and lots of other fun stuff within walking distance. So check out the ones on the east bank. Not sure of all the names of the various places, but google House of Blues and one is right there.

Good hurricane protection, generally. Also pretty brackish/almost fresh so bottom critter growth might be minimal.

Avoid the t-head as that place is polluted with jetskis and they will drive you nuts. Get an inside slip. Waiting for a report of someone shooting at the jetskis!! Just kidding... Sort of...

T-head has current, too. Inside slips less so.

Edit: Second that about wakes from things other than jetskis, too. Definitely get an inside slip.

Have been to Barefoot Landing across the cut last year...nice to walk around the shops but most prefer the other side for an out and out marina as the Landing has nothing but dock/electric and water IIRC.

Sitting in Myrtle Beach Yacht Club as I write..... now our favorite stop in Myrtle unless we need supplies. It has a nice Laundry with computers, swimming pool and is set back off the intracoastal. 2 good restaurants on site and Little River is the actual location but only about 6 miles North of Barefoot.

2 night stay was $87.50 for a 40 footer with 50 amp service....friendly resident boaters.

The opposite end would be Osprey Marina down in Socastee.

Guess it really depends on what you want out of the marina and how long you want to stay.

If I was travelling in the Summer and didn't have to worry about winter winds...I'd love to run outside once and do Murrell's Inlet Oceanside at the south end of Myrtle Beach...the boardwalk there with restaurants and live bands was hopping every time I was there (though haven't been there in 7 years or so).

Each of the marinas there has it's unique advantages. We love Grande Dunes.

I have stayed there and at Barefoot Landing by the outlet stores. Face dock every time. I've never had a problem with wakes, it's a no wake zone. If jet skis bother you, travel from here to Little River in winter or heavy rain. The ICW here is poluted with them and for most of the operators, this is the first time they have ever driven a boat.

Barefoot Marina gives you nice showers, a pool and a nice restaurant. Barefoot Landing gives you water and electric and dozens of shops and restaurants. You could walk to the beach from it.

I live on my boat in Barefoot Marina. Nice place. Clean facilities, good location, low rates. Drop me a line or PM when you are getting close. I can give you a lift into town if you need anything. KJ

Surprisingly the last time I was there Barefoot Marina (with the nice showers and pool) cost less than Barefoot Landing with no amenities. Add in how much your wife will spend in the outlet stores and it's really a bargain.

Just like locating a business. Costs more to be in the mall than across the street from it, even if the landlord across the street gives you more.

I think it's more the fact that it's part of a very large condo/vacation rental complex and it's already there and staffed so they might as well try to get a few extra dollars from transients. The pool is humongous, but the day I was there there were hundreds of people in it.

Thanks All!

Will be planning with family for July, so must still narrow the specific dates.

KJ -thanks for the offer! Hopefully we'll meet when we are down that way.

Best,

Been there many times. Good showers, good for pets, easy walk over to the shops. Good resident boaters will invite you to have fun with them. Very nice people. Face dock is not as bad as others have described. If you're going South or North, a good spot between Georgetown and Southport.

I've been to Barefoot Marina multiple times (along with all the other marinas mentioned). The other info given here in this thread has been accurate - can't find anything I disagree with. Barefoot Marina has great rates and they're genuinely interested in making sure you have a nice experience. Just stay away from the jet ski docks. It's also an easy walk across the bridge to Barefoot Landing from the docks too.

Barefoot Marina

Barefoot is a regular stop for us. Also, we just got back on board after leaving Why Knot there after an unintended 7 month shore leave. First class staff, nice docks. Nice shore side facilities. The only down side is that the the access to the the Grand Strand is difficult. You either need bikes or a car.
Keep in mind...
Barefoot Marina -- red marker side of the ditch. everything mentioned above.
Barefoot Landing Marina -- green side of the ditch. All the shops and restaurants, etc. as mentioned previously. But LANDING is only a facing dock and subject to getting rocked by the occasional wake. (The boaters going through there are well mannered for the most part. There is an occasional jerk.) FYI, the casino boats do not come down there. They go out to sea out of Little River Inlet, farther north.

Barefoot Landing is nice for a nite or two. It is a face dock with a lot of foot traffic from the outlet malls that come down to look at the waterway and boats. Probably not the safest place but I have not heard of any incidents. Longer stays, I would recommend Coquina Harbor that has Myrtle Beach Yacht Club and Lightkeepers where I keep my boat. It is very friendly and has a pool, restaurants, a boardwalk, and great facilities. James will take care of you!

Not all that convenient to the beach itself, but we enjoy docking at Grande Dunes. Nice facility. And convenient to grocery across the street. Plus plans to create a path through the entire resort to the beach. You can bike or walk to the beach now but on sidewalks and streets. Nice protected docks. Restaurants. Nice amenities at hotel including indoor / outdoor pool and hot tub, workout room, sauna. Sometimes if you fuel there you get greater dock discounts or even free dockage if large quantities.

If you are going to be touristy, BF Landing is the best option IMO. But if just passing through, Wacca Wache, Bucksport or Osprey are so much prettier and quieter, while still being a short drive from the craziness. Or for best results, just anchor up Bull Creek for a few days, commune with nature, use the dinghy and chill.

Itís a small world.

Your boat was parked next to mine (Avalon) for those seven months. Never did get to meet you. I left on a delivery trip the day after you arrived back on your boat. Lots of folks commented on what a sea-worthy looking vessel you have. Maybe next time. KJ
