4th of July Celebration!

Well, we started early on Sandpiper! Saturday afternoon (and evening) we had 13 people on the boat & all appeared to have a great time! My wife outdid herself with the food but didn't have much time for chatting with all the guests. I did my best, however, and with 3 or 4 drinks I'm pretty sure I was a spectacle to behold. I'll behave myself tonight as we have been invited to another Ocean Alexander (Big sister to my boat) for a barbecue!

Life could not be better!

Wow. The food looks excellent!

Did y'all go for a ride with 13 folks aboard?

I had a great time on the water for the Independence Day weekend. In fact, I'm still out here swinging on the hook.

I started in the not-so-secret cove near Terminous. It's a C-shaped island with excellent wind protection, good fishing and wildlife and 10 ft of water. It's a short 5-minute dinghy ride to the marina with a general store, restaurant and bar.

I met up with fellow TFer, Scary and his great family. We had the cove pretty much to ourselves.

We moved to Mandeville Cut for the fireworks show hosted by the Hilton family. It's a great time on the water with approximately 500 other boats. It gets pretty wild and crazy near the "gauntlet" where bikinis, excessive drinking and water fights are the norm. We anchored back a bit from that mayhem at the north end where the boats are spaced out more and most are swinging without stern anchors.

There always seem to be the few yahoos who insist on doing it their way regardless of the majority. This guy set a bow and stern anchor perpendicular to the wind in the swing radius of Scary and my boats.

This is what I saw as the sun set...

...this is what I woke up to the next morning!

I saw Pineapple Girl heading into her marina. We chatted briefly as we passed.

Now we're back in the cove for a night or two before I start heading toward home. May get there Thurs....maybe later... That's the beauty of being retired with a boat and no schedule.

Cheers!!

Sounds like an "ideal 4th of July" to me! I'm very jealous!

No ride....the 4th of July is amateur day/night in San Diego and I never take the boat out of the slip. Everywhere you look there are paddle boarders, kayaks, drag boats, etc., and accidents just waiting to happen. We did watch the best fireworks show I ever saw while on the fly bridge of my friends 48 OA. It was fantastic!

Had to work on the 4th. Took 4 divers 50 miles offshore to see the USS St Augustine. Private yacht / ship converted into WW2 convoy escort. Sunk in a collision while escorting a blackout convoy one night.

Damn. Those are some hopped up sounding jet skis. Loud. That's pretty awesome flipping them like that. Unless they did it all day near me, then that would be less than awesome.

What extent was law enforcement present? Didn't I read Sacramento County Sheriff deputies like to hound drunken/crazy boaters? Or is there a truce on the Fourth?

That was pretty much the extent of the show near us. They move around and have fun in the more open areas of the anchorage. Most of the boaters seem to enjoy the show. We also had a Cessna 172 buzzing and taking aerial photos. I was at fellow TFer Clown One's Heritage Europa when a pic was delivered by a friend. And then there was an ultralight that I prayed wouldn't kill himself doing sloppy barrel rolls over the anchorage.

I'm not sure of their enforcement policies but they were present. Usually, they're in good spirits. I have seen them in years past gently using their water cannon to defend themselves from the water assault near the gauntlet. All in good fun!!

I missed connecting with bligh today as he passed through the area by car. I did see him and his family on the water on Sunday. Also, just got a call from Bob Mills/remwines. He's heading this was in his Alumacraft for an afternoon aboard FlyWright. So we'll have a impromptu mini Trawler Forum Rendezvous...CA Delta style!

My cannon doesn't shoot water! But it does "signal."
