Our New Boat!! 37 Atlantic

After months of looking we finally found the boat for us!!

1988 37 Atlantic Double Cabin w/galley down and bunks up front.

A super huge shout out to Daddy O for educating us on trawlers, coordinating several out of town looking expeditions, and handling our offer and closing. It was nice to find a broker who really understands great service - thanks Mark!

We are in process of getting her ready for the trip from SC to her new home in the Corpus Christi / Port Aransas area. We have hired a captain to handle part of the trip and we will hopscotch the last few legs before summer. So much to learn...

We are planning to keep her in Island Moorings and are looking forward to seeing folks on the water soon.

Trolling the archives of the forum has been a great resource - thanks everyone for your help. Now the fun and the questions really start!!

Wow, what a beaut! That's my boat's younger sister. I didn't know they were still making them in 88.

I'd love to see more pictures, too. There are so few Prairie and Atlantic 36/37's out there.

We have the galley up, not sure which one I'd choose if I were having it built new. But I really like the bunks in the forward cabin, mine is just a big V. I thought I liked the clean white finish in mine instead of the wood, but your pictures are making me question that.

we are having the captain take her to Pensacola via the Okeechobee waterway. Then we will take some time to bring her back in a couple of legs over the summer. I figure the ICW is a great place to learn about the boat and good a reason as any to stop in New Orleans and eat.

Hi CaptTom - saw I several of your posts while we were doing our research. You have a very nice boat and I read lots of good things on the coastal cruisers - but hard to find. I looked at the 36 Prairie that Larry has for sale in JaX area and really liked it, but we really wanted the bunks for the kids. Here are a couple more pics. Will have to compare notes once i get her home and go over her stem to stern.

8.2DD w/1400 hours - previous owner indicated 9knt cruise @ 2100 rpm.

lots of research on those (thanks to trawler forum and boatdiesel.com) and a clean bill of health with a separate engine survey

22/22 props that are in process of being refinished - figure i would send the captain on his way with clean bottom and tuned props and save some fuel.

Congratulations! We made a similar trip last year, ending in Kemah. It was our maiden voyage(boat & boaters) and was one of the best trips we've ever done.

I hope you will be aboard when the captain brings it to Pensacola. The east coast is not to be missed, plus the experience you'll gain with his supervision is invaluable.

Along the GICW we had a great stop @ Margaritaville Casino & Marina in Biloxi. It's fairly new, we were the only boat there( but it was November).

I envy you for the adventure that's on your horizon.

And a plug here for Gulfport Small Craft Harbour in Mississippi as well. We are on pier 5. Check out ActiveCaptain for all of the positive reviews.
We have made the voyage to and from Kemah several times and it is awesome. It's a bit dated now I suspect- but Skipper Bob hits all the highlights on crossing the Mississippi River and entering the Atchafaya River in Morgan City. It's gonna be harder than you might think to access some of that great New Orleans cooking without a car, but you may want to consider Phil's in Slidell (Oak Harbour) or Morten's in Madisonville. Most of the great recipe's have migrated to the North Shore.

8.2's have weak exhaust manifolds that are prone to cracking. Make sure you keep cooling system in good shape, your overheat alarm functioning, and don't run low on coolant.

If you run hull speed, it should live long.

Annoying road load governor on those things, but that won't cause you any trouble.
