I posted this on another thread and think it will probably be deleted.

I think it’s worth a thought.

Quoting myself,
“ Michael,
Good for you!
W/O TV 45 would not be president and the Republicans would not be far far to the right and the liberals would not need to be called socialists. Americans would almost all be very close to the middle and easily be able to negotiate most anything. In this case I vote to go back in time. But W/O TV there would be no need. And all the right and left stuff would be on the same newscast.
But if everybody didn’t watch TV .......... “

“129,864,880 books so would hope some good ones. However, the condemnation of all of TV is rather shallow.

Is Food Channel worse than all the recipe books?

National Geographic and the History channel no good?

What about the Hallmark Channel?

I assume you don't approve of movies either so all the movie channels are no good, from TNT to HMO to Cinemax to Showtime to Epic to Starz to The Movie Channel and all the rest? Even though many of the movies from books.

The Travel Channel also no good?

Comedy Channel? Do we dismiss comedy as no good? Personally, I like some mindless drivel even.

All the dozens of stations of music bad too?

I guess Disney and the Family Channel and Nickolodeon hold no value?

27 Religious networks currently, no good?

It's amazing to me that with 400 or so channels today, one can honestly say that none of it is any good.”

BandB,
Of course not. I think it will be obvious what TV is bad. But for those leaning on the literal side I meant political TV and all the mindless action vids of things blowing up and people killing others ect. And there actually is good objective political TV. BBC News is usually good. And I’ve seen new TV programs that claim to be nutral ... some actually are (as far as I can tell) nutral. But the rest is a debate hosted by skilled debators w very subjective and even false content. BAD.

It’s been really bad for our country. And if it’s not fixed we will fail as a nation. Most probably. Most think it’s been Russia that has divided us but it’s been our own media.

Greetings,
Mr. NW. So, TV is good except for the bad bits?

Any form of communication can and will be misused. Pamphleteers in the late 1700’s/early 1800’s were that era’s key source of virulent disinformation. Scrolls from the Roman era were full of competing religious dogma. (Hell, even early cave artists grossly exaggerated their fertility symbols ). Today, I’m much more concerned about social media, which has allowed public discourse to reach new lows of disinformation and “alternative facts.”

The answer, for me, is media literacy courses in elementary schools. Teach kids how the media (TV, radio, print and social) actually works and how to recognize when they’re being scammed, trolled or fed a line of BS.

I think the internet and social media has FAR more to do with it than TV. Before the internet / forums / Facebook / etc, people wouldn't dare say half the things they say to someone's face.

Additionally, you can literally put ANYTHING on the internet. At least TV is somewhat controlled.

Just like your anchor and hull shape thread comments where people who feel they are silly and you suggest they should back out and ignore or start another thread...

Well then, I am glad you started a new thread as I can see TV threads are not your bag.... :)

I didn't choose to be a part of this thread and don't appreciate being cut and pasted into it and then my post used to promote your agenda. Come up with your own content but don't copy my posts and bring them into other threads, especially when using my completely non-political post to then allow you to make a political rant.

TV isn't bad. Some of the content is.
Guess you will suggest boats are bad next as they brought the white man to North America, and the place went down hill from there.

I have not watched TV in years, a movie now and then, an occasional MMA fight..but that’s it..If you keep that TV on long enough you will begin to get depressed . Once you wake up to the fact that TV main purpose is to brainwash and manipulate...you will never go back..

This changes everything.

I made another mistake.
I pulled psneeld and BandB off of my ignore list.
The’re going back on now and I’ll not make that mistake again.

I work in tv.

Wifey B: But you're good. Just trying to talk to you about TV being bad is like telling a florist people shouldn't buy flowers. For the record, I even like the commercials. :D

Right? The commercials are the best part!!! LOL!! I’m probably in trouble now.;)

Books and TV are not mutually exclusive. You can enjoy both, maybe not at the same time.

I don’t know what the current tv trend is in the USA but in Australia television seems to be dying a slow death.
At home my wife and I watch less than 10 hours/week of tv. About half is Netflix and the other half is the ABC (which is non-commercial).
Our 23 and 21 year old watch much less than us and it seems as most of their friends also watch very little television.

Yes, I'm so brainwashed I'm thinking about moving to North Korea. And yeah, I eat anti-depressants by the bottle full. Drivel, pure drivel.

Wifey B: Guess I didn't realize that I had such an advanced television system with a remote control that allows me to select what channel to watch and even a guide showing what is on and if there is nothing I like on any of the 300 channels, I can turn it off. Tonight I watched the second half of one basketball game and then an entire additional game. Also watched a little of an American Pickers show we had on DVR. They found a 1920 small Rolls Royce in a barn. That was all after dinner at Blue Heaven. :)

LOL! Great pic!

Donna, will you be coming to Ft. Pierce?

I’m still not sure yet. Work schedule is all over the place right now. Don’t think I can take extended time. I may drive down for an overnight or 2.

Come on Donna, we know you own the station.Your boat is probably a corporate write off to shelter all the millions. ;) Just tell your personal assistant you'll be out for a few days while you're researching another "write off" acquisition.
