RE: Optical Dillusion

Something was wrong the moment I looked at it.* The real races will be made with catamarans.

RE: Optical Dillusion

Actually, I watched that entire Americas cup series between Oracle and Alinghi, and although in terms of what it is usually run as, ie monohulls to a class standard and as a full elliniation series, it was a one-off and not comparable, it was never-the-less impressive. The design concepts pushing the envelope were amazing. I never thought to see a trimaran lifting both outer and middle hulls and flying, but Oracle did. Alinghi never stood a chance. Yet before the race, one would normally have anticipated the cat with two hulls would be faster....
Still I am looking forward once again to the runing of a 'proper' Americas Cup, when and where they decide it will be.

In 2011 Teams will race in AC 45 cats to get design ideas

In 2013 the the Louis Vuitton Cup and the Americas Cup will be sailed in AC 72's

All competition will be done on San Francisco Bay.**

The TV programming should be "fantastic". Although I'm not a "rag bagger", the
America's Cup is at the top of my favorite sporting events. The San Francisco venue
makes a lot of sense and should rekindle the interest that the Cup had years ago.

For some*folks it's the Super Bowl
For some it's the Daytona*500
For some it's the World Series*or the World Cup

For me it's always been the America's Cup

However (I can't believe this), I must have slept during the last Event.
I wachted every race in the 2007 series, but somehow managed to miss the 2010 debacle, yeah, missed the whole shootin' match.* Didn't even know they had it.*
I'll be ready this time!

ps* The Masters is also a hassle and it's never trickled down to help my game.

Unfortunately, catamarans aren't "real" boats to me.* Wishing they'd go back to the spectacular J-class boats.
