How To Behave On An Internet Forum

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Now what has happened to the live link thingamy - it's still greyed out.* I tried to make Gonzo's link live to remind myself how it works, and because someone on another board asked how it's done, and now I can't make it work either, yet it has before.* Sorry, but there seems no alternative than to copy >> paste at present.* Here it is again, non-live......* http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-behave-on-an-internet-forum
Actually it's quite good, right on the money and funny.....
Baker ...Doug...any ideas?* Am I missing some obvious step here to ungrey the link icons?*

Peter--- If copying and pasting don't work, use the code-writing method of making a link live. Where you want the link to be in your post first type open-bracket, the letters url, and then close-bracket.* Then paste the URL immediately after this.* At the end of the URL type open-bracket, forward slash, the letters url, and close-bracket.** This code will make anything between them "live."* I can't type an actual demo of this because the two bracket-urls at each end won't be visible and the text between them will probably be highlighted live.

So you end up with this* http://www.fisheriessupply.com/

Or in the case of Gonzo's post, http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-behave-on-an-internet-forum* I simply copied the link from Gonzo's post and pasted it here with the bracket bits at each end.

Thanks Marin - worth knowing that trick, but I managed to work out what we were doing wrong, or rather not doing right, on the other thread, where Eric was having the same trouble.
However, to practise what you just said.....

Yeah...that worked, hey that's much quicker than all the link icon stuff, thanks for that.

Speaking of internet forums here is something I read years ago,
I was threatened with expulsion from the T&T list for posting it there.
One of the funniest things I have read
* By the way I just installed some Alpenglow lights in my salon if any one wants to get into that!

How many forum posters does it take to change a light bulb?*

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the
light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"

Another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light
bulb" is perfectly correct

19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take
this discussion to a light bulb forum

11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light
bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to
buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this
technique and what brands are faulty

5 People to post pics of their own light bulbs

15 People to post "I can't see S$%^!" and their own light bulbs

7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the
corrected URL's

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all
headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot
handle the light bulb controversy

4 to say "Didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "Do a search on light bulbs before posting questions about
light bulbs"

1 to bring politics into the discussion by adding that George W. isn't
the brightest bulb.

4 more to get into personal attacks over their political views.

1 moderator to lock the light bulb thread.

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and
start it all over again.

Peter, it will not be live if you post using the "quick reply" method. If you use the regular(advanced editor) then it will show up live.

Great liberal tale , but google the GRADES for ALGORE & GB and see who did better in skool.

After all ALGORE got thrown out of a religious skool.

God is Good , was too much to sink into his stoned brain?

Thanks John, however, I was in advanced editor, but the link icon is greyed out until one pastes in then highlights the URL, then they light up, so all is well.

Hey, Steve's post is very funny, and sooooo accurate in its own way.
