That is what I have, but I put the regular stock on it. Nice gun, especially when loaded with slugs. Basically the poor man's bazooka with that load.

I have been looking for an option Mossberg used to offer of a line launcher for the 590. I recall it fired 250' of messenger line for emergency situations. Can't find one, but if I ever see one offered, I will buy it.

Make the decision, mount a machine gun on the flybridge. That should cover the bases.

Hi Marin,
I don't know about carry fire arms, The government made an action where the population took their fire armas and received $ 100 for each one.
Before, having a gun was misdemeanor, now a crime but do not know about have a gun in the boat for personal defense.
I'll find out and return.

Shotgun. Mossberg 500 or Remington or Winchester 1300. All are less than 500.00 and if its confiscated so what? I would take two and declare one.

They are flare guns, not flair. Flair is the brand name for a pen, which may be used in self-defense if you wish to write a strongly worded note of protest to someone boarding your boat uninvited. I'm dubious about the effectiveness of such an approach, however.
Even using a flare gun has problems because you need to be within hand-to-hand combat range for accuracy and you have only the one shot.
If you're going to get a gun for on-board use, get one. Be mindful of where you take it, because confiscation may be the least of your problems in some jurisdictions.

Safe and Happy Boating!

I would never announce on a forum that I carry a gun on my boat unless my boat name and personal data were not shown. However, if I were to carry any sort of controlled weapon I would make sure that it was hidden behind a panel or vinyl covering that was attached with Velcro or something similar making it very easy to extricate in case of trouble. Here in Mexico the gun control laws insure that only the banditos have guns....oh ya....and a few Alaskans too.

The OP on this thread asked for opinions and I'm going to weigh in with my response not having read many posts as I'm not interested in guns nor do I intend to kill anyone or anything.

I don't have a gun, never have and obviously never carry one on our boat. Guns are trouble and I want none of it. Also lots to some of the gun activity comes from testosterone and male bravado.

And of course I must admit there is the extremely remote possibility that I could be sorry some day that I didn't have a gun ...... but I doubt it.

And I think if you ask police they will say you're most likely better off (safety wise) without a gun ..... most of the time.

I don't have in mind to kill somebody but I think that if somebody come aboard to our boat and can make bad things with my wife or my daughters, I'll kill, at least shot him.
we'll pass thru many poor countries that we already have heard that can has pirates and with a gun we can keep them away from my boat.
To be clear, I'm not a killer, I'm a serial pirates killer )
I never had a gun before.

Greetings,
I don't do guns. Never had a reason to and like Mr. mb don't anticipate a need. I really have no opinion of anyone's gun views as long as I am not involved.
The one thing that hasn't been mentioned is that there is always the possibility of the perp' or perps' will have bigger and more guns than you do and if the situation arises who shoots first and who ultimately dies. I think I'll take my chances on traveling safely and living.

An armed society is a polite society.

Well said and nuf said on my part.

When seconds count the police are only minuets away and are very good at taking reports and possibly finding out who killed you or your family.

Guns don't kill people. People do.

It has been said the only the bandits have guns.
The government takes your guns how do you protect yourself.

There are lots of A**holes in the world. Just plain sociopaths. they rob rape and kill just for what they consider the fun of it.

I will keep a gun myself.

It is my god given right. So says our constitution. Arguably the greatest document ever written.
