Birds

Anyone interested in waterfowl and shore birds or birds in general? We enjoy poking around the creeks and watching the many species in their natural habitat. So I thought it may be enjoyable to share and see some from other parts of the country and the world.

I will begin by sharing several here. I will have more if anyone has interests when I get the discs sorted out. The darker color birds are Louisiana Herrings. The white ones are Great Egrets. Feel free to add to this thread.

This is the Snowy Egret with the dark bill and dark legs, but yellow feet, which is not shown. I got one getting a shore snack.

We have some heavy duty nests atop the channel markers too with families of Ospreys.

This shot shows a couple of Royal Turns with their cousins Sandwich Turn. While its hard to see, the Sandwich Turn has a small amount of yellow [or Mustard look] at the tip of their bill, hince generating the name.

I'm a bit about birds and nature as I am about art. I can't talk about the methods of the artist or the brush strokes or technique in any intelligent way. I just know what I love to look at. Love the pictures, love to see the birds when cruising but don't ever know what I'm looking at or research to find out. I just appreciate the beauty.

Thanks for the added shots folks. Nice......This small one is a sanderling. The larger bird is a Marbledgodwit. As you can see the long beaks allows them to feed deep down into the shore sand. The single grey-brown one is a juvenile Western Willet.

Across my creek is a big pine tree that hosts Osprey. My girlfriend and I sit on the back deck and watch them almost every afternoon. Sometimes they show up with a big mullet and even flounder. Let me tell you, they eat SLOOOW. Mullet might keep them busy for 45min. Crows hang out nearby and yell at the osprey.

This guy wasn’t afraid of people. We were able to walk right up to him.

We called this guy ‘old grandad’. He moved kinda slow and he would fish for about an hour to catch a minnow. But he was persistent.
