We shopped at a booth that had lots of great old brass lights and things to decorate with a nautical theme. He also has a great website. www.bigshipsalvage.com

RE: Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival

OK,
This was much better than I even hoped. Next year we will attend both days. Between the Quick 'n' Dirty boat building contest, a U-571 Submarine display, Antique and Classic car Cruise In, multiple stage live bands, and Oh- did I mention boats- this was great! I have more photo's than it would be fair to post so I am going to limit to about 4 catagories. The first pics are of powered bateaus. There were probably 6-10 of these at the show. In Cajun Louisiana a bateau refers to a boat with flat ends and bottom, balanced so the fisherman can stand upright to handle nets. The owner in the picture on the river affectionally refers to it as a putt putt. When started (by hand with the flywheel) the single or 2 cylinder machine engine sounds just like that.

My favorite. This Thompson Brothers was used lightly for a year and then stored for over 30 years in a warehouse . Three years under visqueen in the sun after that and the current owner purchased her. Notice the tank that is piped into the manifold above the updraft carburator on the flathead Grey Marine engine. He also scored the original emergency repair kit, still in boxes!

Now that's what I call a boat show.
It looks like there were a few classic timber boats big and small.
Fantastic to see them in such prestine condition.
You either love em or hate em.
