OA 42 Sedan

Are there any Ocean Alexander 42 Sedan drivers here? If so, do you have 440 Yanmars ?

I have a 2006 with 440 yanmars which I just love! hard to beat the OA 42 Sedan for a Southern California boat as it cruises in the high teens, has 2 staterooms, a great fly bridge and is priced right.

Your new avatar looks vaguely familiar. Must be an OA thing.

When you mention a "Southern California Boat" what does that entail? Are you comfortable outside of San Diego Bay on a 42 footer? Is a 42 foot OA ok to take to Ensenada or San Francisco from San Diego? We are interested in the San Diego area for a warm weather refuge in a few years, and are wondering what sort of boating one does there.

Cruising SoCal is not like a lot of other places in that there is a lot of "open water" between destinations down here. A boat that cruises in the the mid to high teens gets you there quicker and of course, off the open water quicker.

Absolutely! I'm comfortable outside San Diego Bay on a 23 footer if the weather permits! I'm not comfortable on anything if the sea is acting up!

San Diegans do all kinds of boating here. Sailing, fishing, bay cruising, voyages, etc. We just don't have the scenery that the PNW, the south eastern US, the north eastern US or the Delta has. When storms hit here ((about 2-3 times a year, you are still protected when cruising San Diego Bay. Of course, I challenge any other part of the country to match our weather. It's absolutely the best!

Hi Codger. Sorry, don't mean to high jack your thread, but I am considering purchasing a OA 42 Sport Sedan with Yanmar 440s. The boat is also located in San Diego. My questions, would you buy your OA again? What do you like best about your boat? What do you wish you had known before you bought it. What do you wish an owner would have shared or alerted you before you purchased your OA.

There's not much that I didn't know about the OA 42 as I owned one 20 years ago. If the boat you are interested in is the 2005 at the Kona Kai (sp?) I toured it about a month ago. She is almost an exact duplicate of my boat in that she has a hard top, dinette instead of a down helm, twin side x side births in the guest stateroom, etc. and 440 Yanmars as you have already mentioned. Had I not bought the OA I have now, I would definitely buy the Kona Kai boat!

I can't think of a thing that I wish the PO had told me as I never talked to him. I love my OA and it's probably my last boat.

I'm guessing that this is the boat you're looking at and if it isn't, it should be!

Great guess Walt. My wife and I will do the sea trial on the OA at Kona this weekend. We are getting back into boating after 5 years. Our last boat was a Tiara 3600. We are very excited about this OA and feel this boat may be our last. Do you have any advise for us before we do the sea trial?

Well, SeaFever, his wife & my wife and I finally got together in San Diego. They bought the 2005 OA 42 and are quite excited at present. We met on "Sandpiper", exchanged pleasantries & then went to "Coasterra" for a late lunch. We hope they locate in our marina as our Ocean Alexander group is growing fast! So far, we have a 64, 58, 48, 46 & 3- 42s that I know of. OAs are really catching on at SunRoad Marina!

Note: I finally received my Smart Plug 220v-50amp and installed it 2 days ago. It sure simplifies the shore power operations. Also, the power cord was shortened & along with a detachable hose reel, it really cleans up the dock box area.

Hi Walt. Thank you and your wonderful wife for hosting my wife and me. We enjoyed meeting you both and your hospitality and support. Sandpiper is a beautiful example of a well maintained and outfitted boat. We hope to bring our newly acquired OA to this level. We also hope the adjacent slip becomes available to us to have twin OA 42's next to each other. That would be something to see. Looking forward to many boating adventures together. Bill

Good to hear! Sea Fever, you couldn't have a better slip neighbor than Walt, except for the fact that he keeps his boat so purty, she makes all the others nearby look worn and dull.

Walt, if you have some Rescue Tape, that'd make a great replacement for that rag taped to your new cord. It will provide the abrasion resistance and protective layer to protect hull and cord. If you don't have any. let me know. I'll send you a roll. I might even have a clear roll for you.

Other than that, I second FlyWright's endorsement.
