It might be stronger IF you purchased a RATED , Marked shakle , rather than unmarked Chinese junk from a local marina.

Underwater with the boat at stake , "Made in the USA " works for me.

*Not only are they over rated and expensive...but they are a weak point in your ground tackle.

I do not use one...have seen too many bent and misshapen.... *I run 400' of chain...on one anchor and 200' on another with 300' of rode.... don't really know why...never anchor in water that deep...but I guess if a storm comes up it will come in handy.

I would just use a standard stainless steel shackle to join chain and anchor... which is waht we do...haven't had any problems so far using a 60lb CQR or a Fortress FX37.
