Gonzo,
Haha......left yourself wide open for that one.
Peter,
Yea......it dos'nt take much chain to become a handful does it? If I substituted 5/16" chain for my 5/8ths line I'd have over 300lbs extra on my bow. If I substituted 26 feet of chain on my rode (that dos'nt exist) for the same weight in anchor I could ditch my 18lb anchors and use 44 lb anchors. Another 26' and I could have a 70 lb anchor. Do'nt suppose anybody (except Marin) could possibly argue that the chain would do me more good than the huge increase in the size of the anchor. I've heard it many times from many sources....put the weight in the anchor. However I did some testing of my winch the other day...raised the anchor several times off the bottom in the bay (50 ft) and I could hardly walk that night. I'm going to try another wrap around the drum next time. But if that's an issue I may need to go to the kind of windlass that takes rope AND chain or a reel winch.
