All that STINKY mud and muck.

Perhaps if NA or boat assemblers spent some time cruising or at least on board a boat there would be a "plan B"

The simplest I can think of would be an anchor well that not only held the line and/or chain properly , but included a self wash down setup. Self draining of course!

Hours underway would wash most stench off with mere time , so any DC pump would work.

For folks with larger engines , where all the sea water coolant can not be dumped into the exhaust,, the bypass line could run to the chain locker , as well as the galley sink.
