Good point Norbert. In my case if the windlass were to fail, that would be a 15' or so at a time lift, stacking the chain on the side deck and cleating off after each pick with a snubber. But if seas are bad and/or boat damage could occur, losing the anchor and chain is not the end of the world.

Is there so much coral where you anchor that more than a short hunk of chain is required ?

As divers you can probably select where you set the anchor to avoid the need for much chain at all.

Why constantly lift 300+ lbs of chain when 20 lbs would do as well?
