Anchor roller Platform

Any of you want to show some pics of your anchor platform? I'm rebuilding mine and looking for some idea's and maybe some rough width size. The one that was on before was a little narrow only 8" or so.

Ours is maybe 18" wide at the aft end, tapering to maybe 12" at the fwd end. It might be 2" thick under the windlass, 1" thick fwd.

I try to minimize the stuff sticking out the ends of Willy. It seems to have paid off as Willy is 30' long and I need not pay more moorage than that and I don't stick out into the fairway or the float walk.

Needing anchors of only 18 to 22 lbs I can hand deploy and retrieve even at my age quite easily. I do now have a small capstan so most of the retrieving is w power assist.

But re the bow roller itself I wanted no significant overhang or view over the bow obstruction. I had a much smaller roller that just was too small so I bought the one in the pics. It's ugly sitting up there on top of the bronze bow chock .. looks like it's just tacked on .. and it is .. on purpose. There's only two 1/4" bolts holding it on as I want it to be a weak link and come off before any damage is done to the bow. Bow sailing in 55 knot winds didn't budge it so it seems strong enough.

Most all the time I don't have an anchor mounted on the roller mount. My anchors are stowed on deck or aft in the hold. This pic was taken just to see if the Claw fit. My old Dreadnought fits also (third pic).

I try hard to avoid bow pulpits and for me it seems to work well. But I realize if I was to get a boat even 2' longer I may need more typical equipment on the bow.

I see Richard you were at the Yacht Club in Prince Rupert. Love to go there and to the Cowpatino and the restaurant across the street that started in 1938. I'm happy to say before I was born.

This is what we installed on our NT 42 this spring; we needed an extension to accommodate the new Rocna as otherwise the shackle would have ended up on the gypsy. Plus the further you can keep the swinging anchor from the hull as it goes up or down the better.

Here are a couple of pics. The roller is self-launching so once the white tether is released, it's all controlled from the helm or via wireless remote from anywhere on the boat. I estimate the width as 9-10 inches wide.

This self-launching setup fabricated by the previous owner works well.
I added the roller hoop.

It's good to minimize one's overall length, but you may want to consider protecting the hull.

My anchoring set-up is the best thing about the original boat when purchased. Built "like the proverbial brick outhouse" is one term I have heard applied to it - and I can live with that - I love it - it's beefy….

PS - I draw the anchor up tight and horizontal to the pulpit platform when underway.

Had mine rebuilt this year using a custom made heavy duty roller assembly I found on eBay. It works much better that the original did with my oversize anchor & all chain, couldn't keep the old bow roller from coming apart.

Consider if you can do something like this. It is fairly simple and is made of a sheet of stainless bent into a U shape. I think you could make this of wood or fiberglass as well.

There is a roller bolted with a single through bolt at the nose. The anchor self rights as it passes over the roller.

The bottom portion in front of the bow tapers downward and forms a chute. As you raise the anchor and wash the chain down, the mud and debris runs down the chute into the water as you wash it off. Otherwise, that mud ends up running onto the deck causing further work.

This may be a product you can buy. Maybe someone else can answer that.
