I have a Xantrex Freedom Marine 20 Inverter/Charger supplying my house battery bank which are all AGM's.

I need to confirm that the remote unit is set up correctly and telling the Inverter/Charger to charge AGM batteries but, I am having trouble deciphering the Xantrex 'Battery Type' set up as described in the owners manual.

In the owners manual for the remote, under battery type set up instructions there is the option of selecting AGM if I had the 458 Series Inverter/Charger but, I have the 'Freedom Marine' version which, I assume to be the 'standard' version. There does not appear to be an option of selecting AGM for the 'Freedom Marine' Inverter/Charger on the remote unit. The owners manual for the Inverter/Charger does say that AGM selection is available but, how do I select that option on the remote unit?

Call Xantrex, they will walk you through the programming.

Please don't focus on the term "AGM" instead focus on the voltages that term represents. You want to focus on the recommended absorption & float voltages your batteries require then find a profile that meets that or as close as you can.. Some AGM batteries are much better charged using the flooded program than AGM it just depends upon what brand of batteries you have and what they specify as the recommended absorption & float charging voltages. AGM batteries should also be charged temp compensated..

Just spoke to Xantrex Customer Support who have informed me that when programming the 'Freedom Marine' Inverter/Charger, use the same parameters as if it were a 458 Series unit.

If only the owners manual had stated that in the first place?

You just need to down load the correct manual and follow the instructions given.

The correct manual is at:

The correct instructions for programming the battery type is:
