Old wires don't always work as pull wires. With luck, when they were installed they were secured every few feet unless they were run in conduit or a raceway. Other times, the wires became twisted with other wires and pulling new wires using one of the old wires won't work.

Just a warning from someone who pulled a lot of wires in his day.

Braided nylon is my choice. In a pinch, Kite string would be my minimum.

Not very well. The best pull string is string made for this purpose and sold at electrical supply houses and home centers. Second best would be a synthetic braided product about 1/8" or more in diameter. You can buy a 50' spool at walmart for $2.00.

It's called Abandoned In Place. AIP.

Use as strong a line as you can. There's nothing worse than pulling wires and the trace breaks when things are 1/2 through the wall or run. Boat manufacturers are terrible about building runs for future additions of electronics and connectors. It's been one of my big complaints with the KK42. Getting stuff from the fly bridge to the helm has been a nightmare.

Looks like in a couple years or less most things will be wifi or Bluetooth...good wire pullers will have to go back to making buggy whips....

It's hard to get a lot of power over wifi or blue tooth.

OK ....but power can come from different directions or be collocated....many things can be solar due to the lower power demands.

Already stuff is much easier than when I installed marine electronics back in 2000-2005. It will be another quantum leap easier in another ten I will bet.
