Satellite Compass Mounting Location

Most gps antennae work fine when mounted behind thin fibreglass e.g.
within a flybridge brow. What's so different about satellite compasses....which comprise two or more gps receivers....that all manufacturers make a big deal about mounting as high as possible in clear air above everything else?

Would be interested to hear from anyone who's successfully installed a Sat compass other than as recommended.

I've only installed with a clear view upward.

Love sat compasses.

Why would you mount it contrary to manufacturers directions?

I never said I was going to do that. I am simply wanting to understand Why those are the directions.
