Ran into a strange one today and wanted to see if any of you have seen this. 8D battery not taking a load well. Watched meter and sometimes it shoots up to 18 volts and stays there for a few minutes. But cant take a load. I removed all chargers and see the same thing. When it drops from 18 it goes to 11 or so. Have any of you seen a battery fail like this? It does not make sense to me since I have the charger removed and all external voltage sources disconnected.

Roger, could it be a defective meter?

Thanks for the reply, two different meters showing same results. I could not believe the first meter...

Is this battery isolated from the bank? I saw an instance like this once and thought that maybe the first plate came loose from a post but I didn't rip the battery apart to find out. I'm curious as to what you find out.

Anthony, did replacing the battery fix it?

Yes it did. Again, I have no idea what caused it. Sorry, I meant to put that in my original post.
