MFD Dash mounting ideas

I'm going from a pair of Raymarine s90s to a pair of Garmin 942xs on my flybridge helm. They are built into the dash.

The Garmins are a bit smaller than the Raymarines, so I'm going to have to fashion some sort of bezel. My thought is to use starboard, but wjile I'm in the planning stages does anyone have a better idea?

I used starboard for my RIB dash when I put in a different radio and plotter. It routes out ok to create bevels but not perfect. I also find it shows dirt quickly. If it was my flybridge or pilothouse I’d do teak or another idea I saw was waterjet cut aluminum that can be powder coated, painted, etc. looked awesome and they could even cut the boats logo in it. A waterjet can almost cut anything so could also be a composit like carbon fiber, etc.

I use to use water jets a lot building motorcycles and they can cut some really precise 2D designs.
I think I just talked myself into that for my flybridge update

I use starboard on my dash. No problem with routing it. I run any cuts through the jointer after cutting it on the table saw, then rout it and get a very nice cut. On the dash I use black starboard as I really don’t like reflections of light colored materials. I used some aluminum bar stock around my windscreen and had it powder coated black to cut down on reflections.

Hey Doug,

I have the same setup as you, except I have a eS179, c97 and a laptop. I use Ram Mounting systems for all three. They hold very well in rough weather.

Sometimes I use starboard, sometimes ABS, sometimes acrylic and sometimes I glass it all in and start over. All depends on what I’m trying to achieve.

Currently I have done all three methods to my dash as well as having made a trunion for my ray E140w.
