The hours counter on the main engine's RPM indicator went out on my latest
cruise. Anyone ever fixed one? I could buy a new one I'm sure, but then lose
the accumulated hours, and of course it* would cost more! Ideas? This is a
1986 Krogen 42, stock VDO indicator.

Talk to a gauge repair shop. I'm at work now and don't have access to my magazines, but Hemming's Motor News has many listings of repair companies. They can rebuild, repair, rescreen the face, put in new glass, new rim, etc. as needed.

Any decent size newstand will stock Hemmings, or I can post some numbers tomorrow. Not all places do all types of gauges, so you'll want to call around to several.

If you cheap out and buy a new one just hook it to DC for a week or two to reset it to your current hours.

Hiya,
** I ran into the same problem with a Motorola Tach.* Repair parts evidently not available BUT I would be able to purchase a new tach with a digital readout which could be set to current hour readings.* The folks I was in touch with are:
* http://www.lspeedo.com/index.html*** They also do repairs.
** Hope this helps.
