Is there a way to identify a working depth transducer when out of the water?

When turned on I could hear a clicking sound. Do new ones still make audible clicks?

Yep, they will click. You can usually hear it but if not, put your hand on it and you'll feel it.



Or jack the boat up 6 feet and construct a "kiddy pool" around it high enough that when filled with waterit will submerge the transducer. You will have to through a few fish in there as well because otherwise it's just a"bottom finder" and not a"FISH finder " haha

Have you called Airmar for tech help. They make most of the transducers.

At the marine electronics shop, they had a 4 foot or so section of pvc pipe with a cap on the bottom and would put the ducer just in the top.

Because the signal was slower in air and the pipe helped concentrate the pulses, it would give some arbitrary read up in the teens IIRC.

It at least it was a quick test to show whether the ducer was operating close to performance or not.

Be aware that high-powered transducers can be damaged by being run on land, since they depend on water for cooling.
