Hailer / fog horn

I have a speco 8 ohm speaker/ horn, my new Standard Horizon VHF says it needs a 4 ohm. Will the Speco unit work or do I need to replace it with a 4 ohm unit? Thank you for any help

The 8 ohm speakers will work. The sound may not be quite as good, but only a trained ear will be able to tell the difference.

The increased impedance with will lower the volume a bit. Might want to test it out first. The little amps in those radios might not like being pushed that hard. Still, always better to have a higher impedance than lower. Never go below the rated Z, that will burn up the output stage of the amplifier.

Not much of a fog horn!!! Swopped mine out for an air horn.
