I would say yes because he hold the shut off solenoid and the engine runs....

Generator tech visited the boat today. Result is a bad circuit board. Here's the interesting part; the board from Onan is $479, however, the parts guy at my local marina told me to contact Generator & RV Controls Repair and Replacements, Engine Monitoring, Idle limiting. They build circuit boards in the USA and warranty them for 2-years. Price for the board I need is $129 plus $10 for shipping and it will be here tomorrow. I will post after the installation which will be Thursday or Friday. They were very helpful and pleasant on the phone. This could be a great find.

Flight Systems Inc. do a great job of rebuilding generator control boards for many makes and models of marine generators. They have rebuilt two Kohler boards for me and they came back like new. First rate outfit.

+2 on Flight Systems Inc.
They build a replacement board for my Onan which includes improved components and is still a plug and play installation in the old box. Plus the components and board are sealed into waterproof resin, which helps to make them impervious to the marine environment.

These comments are soothing. I didn't know what I would get at that price. Thanks.

I have a Onan, Model MDKAU that is giving me similar problems. Sometimes it starts fine and runs as long as needed but other times it starts a run maybe 10 seconds.
It is giving me a problem code that translates to high exhaust temperature. I don't understand how this could be the problem because it's giving this code when the engine/exhaust is cold. Also in the off season I had all new exhaust components installed. I also had the water pump, impeller, and hoses replaced.
No where in the owners manual is there any mention of sensors or a system board.
I'm wondering if I have the same problem as hmason?

My genset issue was bad connections to the exhaust temp sensor. It didn't need an overtemp to shut'er down...just a bit of warmth and vibration I am guessing.

The new circuit board arrived the next day from Flight Systems. It was installed and the genset started right up. We left for the weekend and had 98 degree weather with high humidity. Ran the genny under air conditioning load plus other onboard electrics for 12 straight hours or more nonstop. Carried the load perfectly. A very happy outcome and kudos to Flight Systems.

That's good to hear. Sounds like a great source for replacement components. Thanks for posting the update!

Now if they could only replace stolen shoes!

Good to hear!! I installed their board 8 or 9 years ago and it does a much better job controlling the generator than the original board. All the little gremlins went away with the old board!!

Why must you ruin my day and remind me of my departed shoes? Just when I was getting over it. Why anyone talks to Oliver is beyond me. BTW, the generator was running 2 air conditioners; it never could do that before. The temp and pressure was rock solid. Well, that cheered me up a little.
