Garmin Inreach Mini Satellite Communications

I've got the Inreach + I think. It is great for texting people and getting weather reports. You can have it send your course and position to selected people also. Great piece of equipment. :thumb:

Yes it works well. It is not instant communication but close enough. I know of no known dead zones. I have heard rumor of the competitor has a big dead zone between Hawaii and Tahiti. I say rumor as I have not talked to anyone who was actually in that area.

I have used the InReach to txt to others asking for parts to be shipped to my destination. Always worked for that.
 
The inReach is quite reliable for both position reports and text messaging, though not fast at the latter. I doubt there are dead zones - this uses the Iridium constellation of satellites which has global coverage and is maintained (indirectly) by the US DOD. The inReach is resistant to interference or other transmission problems as it repeats the transmission until it gets an acknowledgement or receipt from the satellite.
