Environment Canada displayed some FM weather radios at the boat show and I got the impression from them that these may provide more reliable reception in remote areas. I'm doubtful, but can anyone who has experience with these in remote locations in BC comment on this?

Can't speak to the FM radios you mention but we've found that VHF weather is well covered in BC and SE Alaska. Sirius weather works even better. With the right sat phone setup more options are available yet.

Thanks. There are areas down south, up Knight and a few others where we found the reception poor and I heard a few comments that places like Miles Inlet are also poor. I realize that Sirius is an option but we already have the inreach which is a more affordable option than a Sat phone.
