What's your next, immediate voyage?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Murray are you going to Gillan Harbour? .. On Dewdney Is?

Then there's Chapple Inlet, McMicking Inlet, Betterridge Inlet, Dunn Passage and Weinberg Inlet, and the channel on the east side of Barnard Is. Turtish Harbour on Aristazabal Is also looks very interesting. Take kayaks. And please please take camera.

It worked.:socool:

Tell FlyWright to stay away from Mildred. Nothing good will come of that.

Is it just me, or does the Coot look bigger in video form? She sure is a classy vessel.

Home now, but a one day cruise to Miami and back tomorrow. Just local for the next three weeks. Perhaps as far as Key West or Bimini or Daytona during this down period. We're actually both working in the office today.

Rainy time in Northeast Brazil these days. We'll be back running in early October. Meanwhile, Flybridge covering project is ongoing, getting ready for less wet times.

Bon voyage to all of you in this summer. Be safe and enjoy!!!

We all made it to Mildred Island for a 2 night anchorage. Perfect temps in the low 80s with low humidity and moderate daytime winds in a well-rotected cove. As the sun set, the bugs came out which kept us inside...an unusual occurrence in California.

From L-R; Carquinez Coot (markpierce), Mahalo Moi (Giggitoni), Frisky (bligh) and Satori (Delta JimS)

Final tally: exactly 100 NM in 12:33. Avg speed 8 Kts thanks to the tidal push.

My daughter throwing a stick for her dog, Cooper. This little section of beach (about 100 sq. ft.) is the only one to be found in miles!

The edges of the flooded island are full of wildlife including this excellent example of Argiope aurantia.

Just got back from a week of houseboating on Lake Powell in southern Utah. Now that was a different type of boating for me and stunning scenery. We tied the boat up to some big rocks in a canyon and took expeditions to explore other canyons in 18' ski boats. Really fun!

Our giant 4th of July raftup made the Washington Post. We are the long one in the middle - 18 boats if I remember correctly.

Think next for us, this weekend, is a cruise up NY harbor to the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and others.

We love cruising the harbor there. Nothing like that approach. While we don't get back to NY for a couple of weeks still, we took a two day trip to Bimini. We headed over this morning and by 9:30 were in and cleared. Then played around in a RIB. Now relaxing a bit before an early dinner and a little bit of time in the casino. Tomorrow, more time exploring on land and back home late tomorrow afternoon. Nice to live only an hour and half from Bimini.

Next immediate "voyage" is taking my recently retired director of videography and his wife out in our fishing boat to do some crabbing, since we were so successful at it this past weekend.

Our next trip in the big boat will be a club cruise to a local harbor town that has a big arts fair every year where they close off the streets and so on.

Our next real "voyage" will also be in the big boat and will combine a club cruise to an interesting and historical bay in the San Juans which will then be followed be our own two or three week trip in the Gulf Islands of BC in September. We've been there a number of times but there are still some anchorages and harbors we haven't experienced yet.

That will take us into what we feel is the best cruising (and fishing) season of the year here which is September through early May. Hopefully, and unless work gets in the way which it has a bad habit of doing, we'll have the opportunity to use both the boats we have in this area a lot through the winter.

Marin, looks like you've a busy boat calendar, not doing things half-way.

Well, we have a busy calendar but between work and the weather our boating plans tend to get whittled down a fair amount.:) Last winter was fairly mild weather-wise but it was very busy work-wise.

What the weather will do this winter is anyone's guess. Maybe we simply won't have any weather at all. Nothing, zip, zero, nada. Now that would be interesting. :)

Even when the winter weather is bad we still use the boat almost every weekend. We use it like some people use a cabin in the woods or wherever, a way to get out of Dodge for a couple of days even if we don't actually take the boat out. We've finally had the main cabin re-cushioned so it's comfortable to sit in now, so that will make weekends on board more appealing.

So we'll see what happens. The big boat can take far worse water than the small boat but the big boat's no good for fishing to say nothing of the fact it's in the wrong place for that.

On the other hand, if we always knew exactly what was going to happen in the future it would take all the excitement out of life, don't you think?

PS- Been on any cool trains lately?

Next week- heading from Toms River NJ up to New York Harbor-then up the Hudson to explore Lake Champlain. On the return trip we are going to do some canal crawling on the Erie Canal before heading back South to Jersey.. Round trip 18/20 days.

not 100% sure but thinking either Dry Tortugas or part of a leg with some friends to the Exumas

Not lately. Three years ago rode on the White Pass from Skagway and before that on the former Santa Fe branchline to the Grand Canyon.

After moving up to Jacksonville, I plan to take a long cruise South (up) the St. Johns to visit and fish some places I fished in the '60s. Then go up to hang out around Cumberland Island, St. Marys, and Fernandina Beach. We have been to all those places, but never really took a relaxing trip to them.

The marina has a pool, so that will be nice after a day working on the boat. I think we will like it there.

So, those are our plans for cruising the next several months. Slowing down to savor the area around Jax.

Always nice returning to places you've enjoyed but longed to see more of.

So true. Ron on High Cotton, his Comano, do a great blog on their trip on the St. Johns. That got me thinking about it. Also, one of my grandsons is in College at St. Augustine. He has been bugging me about doing some surf fishing with him. So, I thought having him along on some of the cruising would be great. They do grow up so quickly. Here is a picture of him piloting Moonstruck with his younger brother (who is now playing football in the SEC) in the navigators chair. Notice how intent they are.

You did just hit upon something else we've found. Return somewhere with different people accompanying you and it's new all over again. As they enjoy it for the first time, you get to enjoy it fresh and new all over again.

If you stop in Atlantic highlands, swing by for a cold one

The double plus is taking my grandson up the rivers like the Wekiva that I fished while in college. I would take my little 8' plywood pram, throw it on the top of my Corvair, load the 3 hp Ted Williams air cooled outboard and head to the river. Going up to those spots with him along in the dinghy will just be a special thing for me. The fact that he wants to hang out with Grandad is awesome.

Taking friends along on trips does make it seem almost new to me. I had occasion last weekend to visit with a friend I have known since first grade elementary. He has multiple myeloma with a grim prognosis. He mentioned several times the boat trips they had made with us (the last one being to Ft. Lauderdale). They really did seem to create special memories for him. When we were in several great stops eating at great restaurants, he would often say, "when we were starting elementary school did you ever think we would be doing this". I would always answer. "oh yeah, it was in the plan all along". It was just an inside joke that we shared in many different places.

Oriental, Beaufort, Cape Lookout next week...>

Really looking forward to Cape Lookout...supposedly one of the nicest anchorages on the East Coast!
