When I'm not on the boat, I'm wishin' I was.

On Monday I start a new job in Wilmington. My office will be 30 yards from navigable water. I can take my lunch break and change my raw water impeller.

OK. Maybe a slight exaggeration.

When I forget the trauma of house-selling, I get excited. Oh yeah, and my current 15-month marina lease...

Wonderful pics.

Looks like the Stockholm to Turku ferry that goes to Finland (houses on rocks, lots of 'em). Might be worth a ride up there in Sand Castle once my maintenance is top notch. Then again, I like having twins for the ocean crossings. May have to start looking all over again!

What a great way to share your trip. I'm glad you are at your destination, but a little sad that this part is complete. I am looking forward to your trip South this Fall. Thanks for taking all of us along.

Your very welcome. If you don't mind I'd be glad to inundate you all with the boats and scenes of Maine.

It's a rainy stormy morning here in Southwest Harbor, ME. I thought it might be a good time to catch up on some photos and tell you all a bit about some of my new friends and dock mates. Cruising gives you a chance to meet some of the most fascinating people you might ever hope to come across. First on Patriot a Sabre 42 (like Moonstruck) is retired Rear Admiral Willie Williams. On Blue Chart a Nordhaven 50 is retired Navy Commander Milt Baker one of the main organizers of the Nordhaven 2004 Atlantic Rally and the founder of Blue Charts. On the Spirit of Zopilote (cover boat of one of the first issues of Passagemaker) is non other then Bruce Kessler. Bruce is a former Le Mans driver, famous TV director and considered by many to be one of the people most responsible for opening the world to the idea that circumnavigation and ocean crossing was very doable under power when he circumnavigated in 1990 aboard Zopilote a 70' Northern Marine trawler. He lost that boat victim to an uncharted ledge in a remote area of Alaska and later had Spirit built a 62' Northern Marine. Bruce was the last person to see James Dean when they talked roadside and agreed to meet for dinner 60 miles away. Dean crashed and died 30 miles into that trip. Bruce's wife the beautiful Joan Freeman was herself an actress and stared in films with Elvis, Frankie Avalon and others. Bruce produced and directed the video from the Atlantic Rally.

One of the coolest things about boating and being around the water in general is the interesting people you meet. Years ago I met and talked with the Hilton family, back when Paris was still a cute and innocent pre-teen. There's been others over the years but all had one thing in common. They where all fairly down to earth people when in a private setting around the water where they could let their hair down so to speak.

Water has a calming influence on all of us.

I saw Zopilote here in the LA Harbor before his trip north. That was a beautiful boat. I took my dinghy and went around the boat and spoke to people aboard her. I don't remember their names though, but I don't remember the owner being one of them. I read about the mishap in our local boating rag and it was discussed by many in our marina.
