Simpson Lawerence sprint 1000 vertical windlass

My windlass is acting up.
When letting chain out the Gypsy Cap loosens and releases the pressure on the gipsy allowing the chain to freely feed out on its own. In order to stop this I have tried to tighten the gypsy cap but it just loosens as soon as we start letting out chain again. The only thing that works so far is to hold my foot on the cap when letting out chain to keep the tension on.
Any suggestions?

May be the way it's designed. I think for fishermen they have a feature on many windlass's that they call "free fall".

How big is your boat? I let my rode out by hand.
