Another reason to repower with new gassers is a bit related to safety. Up until 20 years ago or so gasoline powered boats were built with fuel systems that could suffer from ethanol degradation of gaskets, O rings and hoses.

I had a 1995 300 DA SeaRay where the line from the fuel fill cap to the tanks had to be replaced after 8 years due to gasahol. BTW, a new 6.2 or 8.2 will do better for fuel economy than the old reliable carbed 454.
