You are much better off tying up in downtown than you are trying to anchor near downtown. Anchoring can be done there but holding is very difficult and currents, etc. I'd suggest you tie up on the floating dock just immediately upstream of the hard sea wall. The floating dock upstream from the hard wall is gated so that access is limited. Plus it is easier to get on and off on the floating dock than the hard wall IMO. if you walk across the pedestrian bridge there and go to the north shore, the Chattanooga Brewing Company is there and sells growlers but I think they are only open for that on Friday and Saturdays: Welcome - Chattanooga Brewing Company - Chattanooga, TN
There are very good restaurants in downtown within walking distance of the waterfront. Very walkable and you will enjoy it.

Thanks glad your back. Thought you'd gotten lost or were to busy selling to talk to your old friends

You might consider Blue Springs on Watts Bar Lake as well. Depends on what you're after, of course, but to me Watts Bar is a prettier lake and a more than twice as big as Tellico, fairly convenient to both Knoxville and Chattanooga. Don't know the current rates at Blue Springs, but the people there are great.

David, as you exit the canyon the last mtn. point on your port is Brady Point. One of my sons home is on the top of the bluff up there. I lived atop Signal Mountain about 40 years. When you get to Williams Island on your port will be red brick buildings. That is Baylor School. That is where my son attended. Give me a call when you get in. If you want we will go to dinner.

David, if you do tie up at the Bluff dock, floating dock like Tony said, make REAL sure you have the gate code before leaving the dock. Once you are out, unless there is someone on the dock, without the code, you are really out! If you do the Bluff dock, they have only a few posts with 50 amp service, some have two 30's for use with a splitter. Each post has water.

Another 160 miles. I wish I could afford it. I'd keep moving. Maybe a month here or there.

I got this email this afternoon from the Corps of Engineers for Chickamauga Lock:
REFERENCE: Notice to Navigation Interests 13-17, Dated 13 June 2013, Subject Temporary Closures and Intermittent Delays at Chickamauga Lock.
Chickamauga Lock opened to navigation at 2:30PM EDT. Lock operations may be slower than normal due to modified emptying procedures in place to allow curing of composite material placed in the lower approach related to the closure. Chickamauga will be emptying on one valve for the remainder of today and expect normal operations to resume tomorrow.
The daily closures scheduled for next week (22-25 July) have been postponed until further notice. Chickamauga will be open during normal business hours.
~~~
Looks like the lock is back open so quit your lollygagging David! I would call the lockmaster to see if both valves are opening/working for filling the chamber. I went through the chickamauga lock once with my Monk 36 when only one gate was working and the pressure from the water entering the chamber pushed the boat so hard against the wall it flattened all our fenders and made me think the bollard had gotten hung up b/c the boat lurched far to the side against the wall due to the pressure against the keel and hull.
It was a very smooth ride up I had a hard time with catching the Ballard. They didn't have much of an ear and it slipped off also it was low they didn't have the higher ones like the other locks..
