They may be like mine (ocean alexander).
You'll have to sand the paint off the outside trim to find the bungs. The inside frame and glass is set into the opening and adhesive is used to seal/bond it. The outside trim ring screws onto the inside frame. Mine has 3 screws per side and 2 screws on each corner radius.
If there are bungs on the inside frame (next to the glass itself, not on the outer ring part), dont remove them until you verify the outside ring doesnt have any. Mine had bungs but no screws.

No bungs or dowels I can see. After closer investigation looks like small nails on the frame, thinking of attempting a pry bar...

Mr. C. I didn't see any bungs or dowels either when I blew up your photo (post #1). I would caution you to hold off any "strong arm" tactics just yet. I'm sure that there are other Californian owners who have been through what you're contemplating. They just haven't seen YOUR post and responded with a "walk through" description...Leave the Xmas lights up and the pry bar down for the time being. MY $.02...

Thanks Mr Barnacles, I checked the outside of the frame and lo and behold, there's screws! I'm hoping these go all the way through to the inner frame. there are also small nails on the inside frame but judging by the amount of "scotch tape" fixes by PO, may be holding it together due to wood rot.
Next step, remove outside screws and see what happens.......

Your inside picture should go into the "rot porn" thread.
My guess is that window has been out before and the PO who attacked it did a lousy job of repair, as it needs attention again. He did leave you some clues, like the nails on the inside indicate that he pried at the inside of the window frame until it broke, then made up the trim that is presently nailed on.
The outside screws indicate that he removed the bungs and screws the builder used, but didn't bother to re-attach with bungs over screws.
What I think the builder did, was to use a frame that came through to the fibreglass from the inside, was screwed on in a bedding of 5200, from the outside, then the glass was bedded in 5200, then the outside trim was attached over it all with more 5200, screwed in place while the bedding set up, bungs added, then the dressing of varnish.
The above is how my C&L fixed windows are built, which I found out when I had a cracked glass to replace. Yours have failed, so may have been a totally different method of construction.
Sliders are another issue altogether. C&L did a lousy job on sliders as did many of the builders of the 70s and 80s.

hi, looking to buy a 1997 36 foot island gypsy. floors and lower portions of cabinets are stained badly from water intrusion. broker states that the windows are leaking and causing the problem. so how big of a problem am i looking at ?

It sounds more like teak deck failure, admitting water travelling inboard,affecting the "floor" and wicking into the cabinet bases. Either way it`s not good,on my guess the boat needs the teak removed and the substrate deck sandwich investigated. You may be able to discover what is in the sandwich by checking around the lazarette hatches where it may be exposed. Some were teak blocks, some, if you are lucky, were foam.
