Replacing Aluminum Water Tank GB42

We have sprung a leak in one of our 3 aft aluminum water tanks in our Grand Banks 42 Classic. Each are 90 gallons and are are lined up next to each other in the most aft portion of the lazarette. This is the port side tank. Center tank would have to be removed to get this one out. Looks pretty straight forward as they will fit through the lazarette opening, except for a metal support beam that is welded across the three of them that holds up the sub floor decking sections inside of the lazarette.

Has anyone had any experience with using a replacement bladder tank inside of the existing aluminum tank so that the tanks do not need to be removed.

Oliver has given you good advise. ATL is the class act when it comes to flexible tanks.
In fact they will custom make liners for your tank. It might be cheaper to replace the tank but you should talk to them. I know they make liners for fuel tanks but I'm not sure about potable water.

If you can find the leak location just fiberglass over the hole after you drain the tank.

A glassfiber/epoxy patch is the way to go if you can extract the tank. You might consider cutting the welded beam with a Sawzall at the joints between the tanks. Make bolted joints with backing plates when reinstalling.

It may be that the tank failure reason is shared with the other two tanks. Al and galvanic action are all too common. So the why it happened is as important as what to do. I've seen multiple Al tank failures, on the same vessel, due to incompatible metals with all tanks redone after reasons for failure determined.
